Boyds New Year Blog…

oh-my-blog-

If any of you have read my previous blogs (hopefully not just you mom) you will realise it’s been a while (6 months to be exact), so my New Year’s resolution is to be a little more consistent.

I hope you’ve all had a fab Christmas and feeling ready to hit the ground running, jumping, dancing or whatever it is that takes your fancy.

Christmas has been brilliant in both salons; busy and vibrant .Our Christmas Party was a great success, and the girls all looked very glamorous, I’m sure you will agree if you’ve seen the photos. If not, here’s one of our favourites… 12391208_532026230307120_1542542326822114455_n

Apparently a lot of the girls were amazed at my dancing (I’ve just realised that’s not such a good thing is it!)

While I’m on the subject of Christmas I’d like to thank you on behalf of the team for all of the lovely chocolates, biscuits, wine and generous tips, we really do appreciate it.

So now the New Year is here and it’s an exciting time for us .We start to see a lot of new looks, colours and styles, and there’s no better time to give yourself a lift or a boost. Yes you can hit the gym and eat healthy but a new style or colour can instantly make you feel so different.

Feel free to come in armed with style books, celebrity pics or simply let us come up with a new look to suit you and your lifestyle.

Our facials are really popular this time of year also and the reason we use the Dermologcia range is because it rehydrates and brightens the skin, the ultimate being the Bio surface skin peel, which really can change the appearance of the skin.

We have a lot planned for the first part of the year as always.

The annual Wella Trend Vision competition is just about to be launched, so we’ll keep you posted on our entries (might even have a go myself!).

We’re getting involved in a charity catwalk show in February in aid of the Fire Service, we’ll put more info on as soon as we have it and make sure we post plenty of photos (and NO girls I don’t mean photos of the firemen!).

We are having some great success with the Nioxin range of shampoos, conditioners and scalp treatments; some of our clients are really seeing new hair growth and increased thickness. We will be taking on the Nioxin styling range over the next few weeks, which will add volume and thickness when blow-drying and styling, so when we’ve had the training we will be holding a client evening to demonstrate and let you try and of course enjoy a glass of wine or two (clients only Emma).

Another product we are loving and seeing great results from is the permanent colour range Innosense. It’s gentle on the scalp, has great coverage and adds shine and condition, Ideal for clients wanting natural, shiny hair.

So like I said lots going on and I could keep going, (which serves me right for leaving it for 6 months I guess). I will try harder to keep you all up to date with life at Boyds and will get some of the team to do their own blogs.

We would really appreciate any ideas or feedback you have for our salons, at the end of the day it really is all about you so feel free to message or email me.

Right I’m off to book some dancing lessons so that next Christmas the team will really be amazed!

Thanks for reading and a very happy New Year everyone.

Boyd xx

Boyd’s May Blog

Boyd’s May’s Blog

Hi everyone, welcome to my third blog, a little late this one, but April has been a mad month (no excuse I know but it’s the best I’ve got!).

1

So why have we been so busy, well a lot is down to hard work and creativity in salon.

Some of the team have been working hard on a photo shoot, Sarah and Meg have created some great images that will be on our website and in the salon soon, we’ll keep you posted, but watch this space…

One of our amazing clients Leanne Bean asked us to cut her long hair short for charity, so Kate stepped in and created a fantastic new look for her and if you’ve seen the photos on our Facebook page you will agree the style really suits Leanne and looks fab, it’s a win win if you ask me, the little princess charity gained hair and sponsor money for their children’s wigs and Leanne gained a fresh new look.

I always find it exciting when I see clients take on a new look and style, it’s surprising how something so easy can change their whole appearance and confidence.

Kate, our beauty manager has been working hard too and has now qualified as a Dermologica expert and now joins Donna in being able to do the new bio surface peel. We are getting some fantastic results and apparently I’m next in line for the peel so watch this space… I’ve asked them to make me look like I’m 21 again only to be told it’s good but not that good. (Charming).

We’ve been busy with in-salon training and I’ve been working with Becky and Dea stretching them to try new techniques, it’s important that we keep fine tuning our skills to deliver quality hairdressing, it’s also good for me to show the girls I can still cut it. (Excuse the pun!).

So as you can see we’ve had a busy time, well the team have, I just delegate a lot, it’s tough being the boss.

Other events that have been the topic of conversation in the salons over the last 2 months have been the London Marathon, which some of our clients took part in and we would like to say huge congratulations to all who did take part and completed the marathon, including the inspirational Jane Sutton. Jane will be coming into the salon soon to receive her pamper day prize, so we’ll keep you posted with the pictures next time.

Another topic of conversation has been the recent election and yes we’ve been having our own intellectual debates and discussions about the various parties.

One of our stylists who has taken a lot of interest in the election is Meg, she has worked hard to get her head around it all which is quite impressive, during one of my Meg chats I asked her if she was watching any of the debates, she looked a little blank, so I asked her if she was aware of the election to which she asked me is that when we choose a new “president “.

But as I said she’s worked hard at understanding the various party policies so that she could vote with confidence. (If you’ve read my previous blogs you will know that things are never straightforward with our Meg). She takes herself off to vote and is given a white slip for the general election and a yellow slip for the local election, at this point Meg goes into the booth and places her cross in the boxes of her choice. Meg then goes to walk out as the lady behind the desk says “ excuse me madam but you can’t take that yellow slip with you “ Meg still clutching the slip and looking a little flustered replies “ oh sorry I thought it was my receipt to keep”

I do look forward to my conversations with Meg; you never know where they’re going to go!

Thanks for reading

The Boss’s March Blog…

Welcome to this month’s blog…

I ended my last blog telling you I was off to watch a documentary on grey hair. Well I’ve watched ‘fifty shades of grey’ 5 times now and I still can’t see any reference to grey hair colour (perhaps I’ve missed it!)

oh-my-blog-

March is always an inspiring month for all the team, with spring just around the corner, everyone is looking forward to some blue sky and sunshine.

We start to see more blondes, caramels, coppers and sun kissed looks on our clients, with cuts that are light and fresh with movement and style.

There’s a a big trend for undercuts at the moment, which can be subtle to add support and contrast or can be bold and shaved for a more dramatic look and to really make a statement, either way it can look stylish and feminine. Can looks great on men too in a less feminine way of course…

I think the main thing with any style or colour is that it has to suit your face shape, colouring, hair type, lifestyle and personality, get that right and you have the perfect look whatever the style and colour.

Our creative team will be working on our next photo shoot this month, so we’ll have new images to share which we hope will inspire you. (watch this space!)

It’s all go in our beauty department too, Kate is currently training at Dermalogica to increase her knowledge and join Donna as one of the few therapists in the country to be qualified in the new BioSurface Peel.

But of course the most important day this month is Mother’s day, we have a great pamper day competition, which is a great way to spoil your mum  (and no mum, you can’t enter!) We also have vouchers available for hair, nail and beauty treatments.

Another big date in our diary this month is Emma’s 40th birthday on the 15th March (I can’t believe my big sister is going to be 40) Happy birthday for the 15th Em from all of us xx

So as always it’s a busy time at Boyd’s, lots going on which keeps us all on our toes…

To finish off I’ll just share a conversation I had in the Staff Room the other day so you can see what I have to put up with at times…

Meg, one of my stylists, was explaining that she had bought some slippers and when she got them home she noticed one had an L sticker on the sole and the other had an R sticker.

So Meg tells me that she takes the slippers back to the store and asks the sales assistant if she can change them because she has mistakenly bought one Large slipper and one Regular slipper, at which the sale assistant replied ‘No madam, the stickers mean Left and Right.’ (Somebody help me please!!)

Thanks for reading and Happy Mother’s day to all you fantastic Mums out there.

Boyd xx

Boyd’s Blog…

So here’s the thing, I’ve been told that I need to get up to date with social media and technology, so I’ve decided to have a go at a blog about salon life here at Boyd’s.

I’ll be giving you an update once a month and hope you’llBlog word. find it interesting, if not please just humour me!

Ok here goes, we’ve had a really busy start to the year, my (brilliant) team have been creating lots of new looks for our clients. The New Year always brings change, which we love. We’re doing a lot of short feminine crops, sharp bobs and a host of lovely rich colours including copper golds and multi-tonal blondes. I love how a new look can really give a client a lift.

Our beauty department is also very busy; top of the list is Dermalogica facials, especially the new BioSurface Peel that is getting some great feedback. (Don’t believe me? Read our review) the girls have told me I need to have one done…  (Not sure how to take that!) but watch this space…

Staff News. Meg has been promoted to Advanced Senior Stylist after completing her training and reaching her targets, both with flying colours.

Hayley our Nail Technician is back at the Chase Terrace Salon on a Friday and Saturday and getting very busy especially with the popular Shellac.

Training News. Sarah our Creative Director is currently on a training course, once completed she’ll be able to assess and pass our own apprentices. Our two Master Colour Experts Amie and Shell, are working closely with Wella’s Technical Trainer to bring us the latest in colour techniques and products.

As always lots going on here at Boyd’s.

To finish off, not sure if many of you know but there’s a new film out this month, called “50 Shades of Grey” I can’t wait to see it, I love any documentary on hair colour!

Thanks for reading

Tried and Tested… Dermalogica’s New BioSurface Peel. Read The Review

After watching numerous ‘Make Over’ TV Shows – 10 Years Younger – Extreme Make Over etc… and seeing the painful process some ladies go through to change or enhance their looks, I have watched in fascination as they undergo various cosmetic procedures. The one that both intrigues and scares me the most is the ‘Chemical Peel” the thought of someone painting acid on my face fills me with horror, as you watch over a period of time the skin literally peeling off their face, remember Samantha in SITC… not something I was about to inflict on my face in the name of a few wrinkles…

SAMANTHA-CHEMICAL-PEEL

On a visit to my favourite Hair and Beauty Salon, Boyd’s Hair Design I met Donna, having trained with Dermalogica was now their qualified skin expert, she was raving about the new BioSurface Peel that Dermalogica had introduced. After some persuasion I agreed to give it a try and before I had chance to change my mind I was whisked into a treatment room for my patch test… Strike while the irons hot came to mind…

There were no adverse effects so I was a perfect candidate… with this in mind I booked myself a course of 3, don’t do things by halves… and was ready to start my first treatment.

It started with a double cleanse, so far, so good, followed by the prep stage, a 5 minute facial massage using Salicylic Acid was done, this helps dissolve and remove oils so my skin would allow the peel to penetrate, this felt warm and tingled a little but not at all uncomfortable.

Next came the acid, (I think I’d said no one was painting acid on my face!) the enzyme active layer was applied and left for 5 mins, this helps to accelerate re-surfacing (Sounds like a road repair!) and skin renewal, the acid active is then applied for 5 mins this reacts with the enzyme active layer, both work independently of each other, effective but kinder than the more traditional peels currently available.

Throughout the treatment I was asked how my skin was feeling and I was asked to score the tingling on a scale of 1 to 10 as I had nothing to compare this with I felt it was around the four mark. Each stage is accurately timed and up to 5 layers can be applied over the course of the treatments, with my first treatment 3 layers were applied but moved in for the kill with the next 2 and went for the full 5 layers.

The last stage was the de-celerator, which can be left on for up to 10 mins or until the tingling has gone completely. This helps to calm and soothe the skin, neutralise the peeling process and returns the skin to its natural PH.

A high factor SPF was applied and I was done… There was some redness, which I would expect after any kind of facial, other than that my skin felt velvety smooth and positively glowing…

I took Donna’s advice (and the Free After Care Kit, a bonus…) to follow a recommended skin care routine and to get in touch if there was anything I was concerned about. Lots of water was consumed along with plastering my face with moisturiser to keep my skin hydrated, and just waited for the ‘peeling process’ to begin. It was minimal, hardly noticeable except to me and after following the post-treatment care there was no downtime and absolutely no scarring.

bioActivePeel

After the course of 3 my skin has improved dramatically, feels glorious and looks amazing, I will definitely be following this up with a recommended top up treatment on a regular basis and am completely hooked…

Cost £55 or *£137.50 (normally £165)  per course of 3 and includes Free After Care Kit

Recommend course of 3 with follow up on a regular basis.

For more information or to book your treatment call Donna on 01543 677711

*Offer price NOW extended until 28th February 2015
